Artist Profile

Dwight Waldron

Dwight Waldron came to Japan in 1976 with the University of California Study Abroad program to study Japanese language, history, and art at Tokyo's International Christian University. After completing the program he decided to stay in Japan, and started working as a technical translator while trying to break into the Japanese music scene. In the 80's he met hit-maker Tets Hayashi and began writing English lyrics for a variety of projects. In 1988 Dwight and Tets won the ACC Music Award for the commercial song "Taste the Love," written for Nescafé. In 1983 he formed Destination West Advertising, and as its creative director and chief designer won numerous international awards for his work. Still involved with music, he and a friend entered the Gibson International Blues Challenge in 2002, and were winners of the Japan stage. With his lyrics getting good reviews abroad, Dwight wrote the words for all songs (except the instrumental) on Tets Hayahsi's all-English language album "Touch the Sun," released in 2015. In 2016 Dwight is making his singing and songwriting debut with the album "Once ... ," produced by Tets Hayashi.
