GYOKUROGyokuro
A term that compares dewdrops to jewels.
The highest grade of sencha green tea, characterized by low bitterness and rich sweetness. It is made from leaves grown under shade, where sunlight is intentionally limited during cultivation. It is said that during the Tenpo era 1830 to 1844, Yamamoto Tokuo of Edo named and popularized it in Uji. Uji, Yame, Okabe and Hayama are well known production areas.
