KENJI KIHARAA Japanese composer and musician. Living by the sea in Nishi Izu, Shizuoka, he creates gentle music inspired by the sounds of nature, light, and the shifting of the wind.
His soundscapes centered on electronica and ambient music and blending field recordings with delicate electronic tones carefully evoke the quietude found in everyday life and the lingering sensations deep within the heart. His works have been released by labels both in Japan and abroad, offering a sonic world that softly envelops the listener.
Under the alias 'sphontik,'he incorporates the sensibilities of jazz and Brazilian music, exploring the pleasant rhythms and resonances characteristic of chillout and lounge music.
Additionally, under the name Kenji Kihara, he releases simple, heartwarming songs featuring vocals and acoustic guitar.
His creative activities span a wide range of fields, including music for exhibitions and installations, background music for venues, commercial scores, and remixes for other artists. Together with Yuri Miyauchi, he founded 'BGM LAB.'-a laboratory dedicated to the study of background music where he explores the "quiet richness" that emerges from the interplay between space and sound.
