Artist Profile

TOSHiChiWashion Artist Statement (English) I sing Washion WASHION, letters of sound written for the heart. Quiet musical letters that gently stay close to human feelings. With a voice as transparent as washi paper, I softly draw the four seasons of Japan and the emotions that dwell within them, one note at a time. The fragile tenderness when flowers fall. The wabi, a quiet loneliness, as birds announce the seasons. The gentle warmth of wind touching the heart. The sabi, a serene solitude, as the moon keeps watch over the night. Love and farewell, prayer and solitude. My songs are a bridge between ancient Japanese sensibility and the quiet hope of the present. Like petals falling, like wind softly passing by, I wish to deliver sounds that bloom gently in the hearts of those who live, fragile yet certain. Weaving Japanese tradition and lyricism with a contemporary voice that is Washion WASHION Washion Kachō Fūgetsu Charter Preamble Washion is an artistic practice that weaves songs from the beauty of Japanese tradition and human emotion. Through voice and words, it gently stays close to the heart. A song is a letter made of sound, quietly and surely delivering feelings unseen. Rooted in the philosophy of Kachō Fūgetsu Flowers, Birds, Wind, and Moon Washion carries the beauty cherished by the Japanese spirit into the future through song. Hana Poems Flowers itoshii / tender love Flowers bloom in order to fall. Within their fragility lives deep affection. Romance, love, the warmth once touched embracing feelings while knowing they will fade. Hana Poems are songs that wish for longing and beauty to continue gently in the heart. Tori Poems Birds wabi / quiet solitude Since ancient times, birds such as bush warblers and whiteeyes have sung to announce the passage of time and the coming of seasons. Holding the beauty of wabi from wabisabi, and drawing from ancient words and emotions, including those of the Manyōshū, Tori Poems carry voices across time and return them to the present as song. Kaze Poems Wind yasashii / gentle presence The wind is unseen, yet softly touches the heart. Prayer, hope, scenery, and healing. It stays close to feelings that cannot be touched and gently wraps the listeners heart. Kaze Poems are songs that believe in the beauty of invisible things. Tsuki Poems Moon sabi / serene loneliness The moon is a quiet light floating through dusk and night. Unspoken feelings, solitude, and silence. Embracing the beauty of sabi within wabisabi, Tsuki Poems are songs offered softly to moments of being alone, gently keeping company with the night. Conclusion Washion does not follow trends, but chooses the depth of the heart. Tenderness, quiet solitude, gentleness, and serene loneliness holding all of these within, until the voice runs dry, Washion will continue to sing the spirit of Japan, quietly and sincerely.
