Modern Jazz WarModern Jazz War (MJW) is a Tokyo-based hardcore/noise band formed in 2024, centered around the philosophy of Michi Nakano, a visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker.
Nakano's work is consistently rooted in the idea of making what is not the subject become the subject. Rather than relying on figures or symbolic motifs, his practice seeks to construct meaning through elements such as negative space, atmosphere, and traces of light.
This aesthetic directly informs MJW's sonic approach, where noise, drone, and instability are placed at the core of their compositions.
At the same time, the project emphasizes human physicality, embracing the fluctuations and imperfections inherent in noise and rock music as a central theme.
