LOWBORN SOUNDSYSTEMLOWBORN SOUNDSYSTEM is a Japanese Folk Techno group that fuses traditional Japanese folk music with electronic dance music.
The project brings together an unusual mix of creators, including a university professor, entrepreneur, actress, manga artist, and electronic music producers. Their sound blends Techno, Electro, Disco, House, Hip Hop, Alternative Punk, and Japanese folk traditions into a unique musical experience.
Since its formation, LOWBORN SOUNDSYSTEM has been exploring new ways to reinterpret Japanese culture through contemporary club music, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted in tradition and forward-looking.
Their 2021 album LAST GAME reached No.3 on the Japanese iTunes Electronic Chart.
In 2025, the group released Its a show time, featuring collaborations with notable Japanese artists including Porsche Okite, Ilreme, Pochomkin (Gaki Ranger), Cypress Ueno, and others. The album also includes remixes by Yoshihiro Sawasaki and DJ TASAKA.

The group music videos were also featured on the Kansai TV music program Otoitachi, hosted by members of NMB48.
One of their most recognized works, Yatto-Sa! (Awa Odori), reimagines the 400-year-old Japanese folk dance tradition of Awa Odori as a Techno track. The song became an international viral hit, surpassing 1.2 million views on YouTube and introducing Japanese folk culture to listeners around the world.
Today, LOWBORN SOUNDSYSTEM YouTube channel has grown to over 30,000 subscribers, with a significant audience outside Japan.
Since 2006, the group has also organized Girigiri City, an independent cultural event that combines live music, DJs, comedy, and performance art. The event celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2026 and has been held more than 150 times.
Inspired by Japanese traditions such as Awa Odori and Soran Bushi, LOWBORN SOUNDSYSTEM continues to create a distinctive form of Japanese Folk Techno for a global audience.
