Artist Profile

YOYO-CA recognized reggae DJ, his vital and unique lyrics and speedy, bouncy flow have earned him a reputation as a mic specialist, and his influence and support among various other artists is enormous. His musical career began in 1987 when he formed a hardcore band and sang vocals. (In the late 80's, while playing SK8, he started to work with local sound systems (banana size hi-fi, 7star, etc...) with the aim of becoming a reggae deejay.) After a few years of activity, he moved to the U.K. in 1994. After a few years of activity, he moved to England in 1994. Later, he joined JAMAICA. In 1998, one of his demo tapes caught the ear of EC & Rankin taxi and he recorded his first song RULE as YOYO-C. The real voicing in the studio at that time (the recording was completed in just over 5 minutes) attracted a lot of attention, and he suddenly started his career as a top artist in the Japanese reggae scene. Subsequently, he released 045STYLE and MAN A DAPPA, two classics representing the streets of Yokohama. Since then, he has released a number of songs that have now become street classics on various major labels. In 1999, he officially joined Fire Ball, a group of artists affiliated with Sound System and Mighty Crown, and was a main member of their label, Life Style Recording, at the time of its launch. In 2002, when Fire Ball signed a major label deal, he returned to being an artist on his own. In 2003, he established the indie label juke box record with the stance that real music should emerge from the streets. He has been highly acclaimed in a wide range of fields for his excellent taste and selection of sample material, and for his beat programming, in which he does all the programming himself and blows his own voice into the music. His first and second albums were named Album of the Year by music magazines (riddim, music magazine, etc.), and he has been described as a genius. The first album THE SPECIALIST and the second album love, peace & LIGHT are now regarded as masterpieces of Japanese reggae. Soundmen continue to express their respect for YOYO-C, an artist who dares to maintain an underground scene and stance in his activities. With a strong message that never loses the rebellious spirit of reggae as a level music, and beat programming that makes even enthusiasts groan, YOYO-C is definitely a real artist who reigns at the top of this Japanese reggae scene.
