Mayuko MatsumotoComposer. Born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Her work explores relationships between sounds, and between sound and people, situating them within historical, environmental, and social contexts and reconfiguring them into acoustic spaces. Major musical works include Kagura Paraphrase I,II, which draws on Kagura traditions from Nagano Prefecture; Within behind the Eyelids, commissioned by Ensemble Nomad; and the orchestral work the stars in flux, commissioned by NHK. Beyond the field of music, she has presented numerous interdisciplinary works, including the theatre piece MONONOKE, the sound installation Composition: Listening to Borrowed Soundscapes, and the video work the ash air.
