MANIIAMANIIA is a Tokyo-based German/Japanese duo formed in May 2026. The project consists of vocalist Lu Ru (Germany) and composer Ido Kyo (Japan), who is also known as the bassist of GIRLFRIENDZ. The two began recording within a week of meeting and released their debut single I hate u in the same month.
Rooted in 2000s emo and alternative rock, MANIIA creates a unique sonic identity by pushing guitars and synthesizers to the extreme through distortion, destruction, and reconstruction. Lu Ru emotional and desperate vocals intersect with Ido Kyo noisy yet delicate production.
At their first live show in Shibuya on May 15, despite every song still being unreleased, the audience demanded an encore and rushed onto the stage, creating a chaotic and euphoric atmosphere. The duo was also invited to Miu Miu invitation-only event Miu Miu Jazz Club Tokyo, attracting attention not only from the music scene but also from the fashion world.
With the theme Break the rules in our mind, MANIIA creates music that destroys internal limitations and existing values.
