kamariHe began studying calligraphy at the age of five under master calligrapher Chōun Sugimoto. After graduating from the Department of Calligraphy in the Special Teacher Training Program at the Faculty of Education, Tokyo Gakugei University, he chose the path of an independent calligrapher.
In 2014, he established the general incorporated association TUGUMI, through which he has cultivated calligraphy schools across Japan. As of 2025, these spaces of learning and expression have grown into a network of eight locations nationwide, engaging more than 700 students.
Working fluidly across borders, he presents solo exhibitions and live calligraphy performances both in Japan and abroad, while also appearing in a wide range of media. Celebrated as a calligrapher who gives form to thought, his work is noted for its quiet intensity and its ability to carry human emotion beyond language.
