Artist Profile
guattariWhere does human heat come from?
Summer, 2007.
A boy is introduced to music by a friend.
A burned CD filled with sounds: Maximum the Hormone, Slipknot, System Of A Down.
In the middle of a frustrated adolescence, he discovers the urge to scream, rage and desire erupting at once.
It feels like electricity running through his body. He keeps shaking his head.
Soon, he begins visiting rental shops, and that heat spreads to his younger brother.
Summer, 2009.
The boy stands backstage at a music festival.
As a volunteer, he witnesses Mando Diao's explosive performance.
A moving crowd. A vortex of sound.
In that moment, he realizes that music is not made by performers alone. It is built between those who play and those who receive it.
With the friend who gave him that CD, he dives deeper into music.
A film he borrowed, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, leaves a mark. He decides to keep playing music for life.
Summer, 2010.
Now in college, the boy is visited by that friend, along with a bassist called "Brief."
They talk about music.
The boy pretends to be more grown up than he is, trying not to be underestimated.
Summer, 2015.
The boy stands by the sea.
He has dropped out of college and works at a studio, but nothing is going well. No money, no progress, no music he believes in.
Even the praise he once received feels like a distant illusion.
One night, he boards a train to Numazu without thinking. Listening to LOSTAGE, he watches the passing scenery.
He does not care where he is going, only that it is somewhere else.
By morning, he reaches the sea.
There, he understands that he cannot leave music behind.
Before he knows it, he contacts that old friend again, asking to start a band once more. The bassist is there too.
Summer, 2020.
He is no longer a boy.
Now, he lives in the night.
Surrounded by desire, he drifts away from music.
The band stalls. Nothing reaches anyone.
He does not sell. He is not recognized. The future he imagined fades.
He leaves the band and escapes into the night, believing he can never return.
He keeps sinking there, avoiding himself.
New Year's Day, 2022.
He is about to turn thirty.
Still, he cannot let go of music.
Alone, he keeps writing songs and wants to bring them to life.
It feels less like he is holding onto music, and more like music is pulling him back.
He contacts his younger brother, a drummer he has never played with but trusts.
Then he reaches out to the bassist. At first, he refuses.
But after hearing the songs, he finally nods.
A year later, another member joins, forming a four piece band.
February, 2026.
He stands on stage for a two man show with LOSTAGE.
One month earlier, the guitarist left, and the band returned to a three piece.
A friend who once shared everything with him is now gone forever.
Still, he makes it there. He fulfills the promise.
He does not know if it was a good show.
But he gave everything. That is enough.
The scent of the night and the stagnant days begin to fade.
On the stage of a familiar venue, it feels warmer than usual.
Music may be the name of something that runs deep within human blood.
If stories can continue to pulse through it, then it can go anywhere.
Wrapped in swirling rhythms and overwhelming noise.
Where does human heat come from?
He is still searching for the answer.
This story is not over.
That name is: guattari.
