Artist Profile
Aki YAHATAAki YAHATA is a contemporary artist who creates cross-disciplinary works grounded in field research and reportage. Working primarily in video and installation, she is concerned with the overlap between the historical and cultural body and the physiological body, and explores ways of approaching its layered nature. As part of this inquiry, her recent work focuses on road movies, eating with the hands, and Eastern medicine. She is the founder and editor of "Teshoku Web" (https://teshoku.com), an online archive of hand-eating cultures around the world. More recently she has also begun working with sound. She completed the Master's program in Intermedia Art at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, and after withdrawing from its doctoral program, graduated from Shiga University of Medical Science.
