Scrolling Picture Books

Takashi Maki, or Scrolling Picture Books, is a singer-songwriter based in Tokyo. He is also known as an author-illustrator of picture books for readers of all ages. Born in September 1959, in Oita, Japan, Takashi began his musical career at age of 8, learning to play the piano for himself and creating simple musical pieces. Early in 1980s while he studied English literature at Sophia University in Tokyo, Takashi wrote dozens of songs for theatrical productions such as The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Good Woman of Setzuan, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. After participating in a summer 1989 program in Spain, Música en Compostela, Takashi worked actively in writing music and lyrics, which included songs sung by a Japanese pop singer Michiyo Azusa. A hundred of his compositions, however, have been unknown to the public for decades. In 2019, after a long silence, Takashi decided to unveil his work by registering as an artist for Spotify and Apple Music.
