JILLE

While Jille was still an independent label artist in 2011, she started translating Japanese songs into English then made videos singing the songs in silhouette and posting them on YouTube. One of the songs, "Flying Get" by AKB 48, got attention and started to have a lot of traffic. Her strategy of being the mysterious silhouette singer, without showing her nationality and gender, was successful. It was viewed over 2 million times across the globe in less than 1 month. Jille was recognized as a singer with a "Diamond Voice" and signed with Universal Music in July 2012. She released her first album, "I AM GILLE" which included English covers of Japanese songs. It sold over 150,000 copies, which is rare for a brand-new artist in Japan. She won Oricon's "Best New Singer" award that year. On March 27, 2015, Jille was in Hong Kong to represent Japan as the best new artist and performed in the Hong Kong Asian Pop Music Festival". At this festival, 8 singers from different Asian countries participated and competed for the "Supernova Award". She was the first Japanese singer to win this prestigious prize. In addition to the Supernova Award, Jille also won both vocal performance prize and stage performance prize. She took home a total of 3 awards, which was an enormous achievement in the history of the competition. Jille took a personal break for 6 months in 2015, but now has returned for her beloved fans. In order to "restart" and start fresh again, she changed the first letter of her artist name from "Gille" to "Jille".
