Chara

Chara is a Japanese pop musician and actress who debuted in 1991 with the single "Heaven" and the album "Sweet". She quickly garnered attention due to her original sound and unique presence. In 1992, her second album Soul Kiss received a Japan Record Award for best rock album from a new artist. She became an icon in the fashion world and received roles in movies, including starring in Shunji Iwai's "Swallowtail Butterfly", for which she won Best Actress and wrote and sang songs on the #1 album that accompanied the film, as the lead vocalist of YEN TOWN BAND. Her 1997 album "Junior Sweet" sold over 1 million copies. Since then Chara has established a personality often used when describing other female artists as "like Chara". She is a singer-songwriter and musician popular in Japan and across Asia, and is a frequent act at music festivals. She has written, arranged, produced and/or performed songs on more than 50 of her own major label singles, 25 albums including live and self-cover recordings and in countless guest appearances and collaborations, and continues to make relevant pop music recordings today.
